HOW CASTING WOrkS
We want Theatre Colorado to be a place where anyone who wants to be involved in theatre has a way to participate.
You don't need years of experience, and you don't have to audition just to be part of a show.
If you want to be here, we want there to be a place for you.
STEP 1: SIGN UP FOR THE SHOW
Each production will have a set number of guaranteed spots available on a first-come, first-served basis. Once you sign up and pay your production contribution, you're in! You are guaranteed a role in the show.
We'll also keep a waitlist once those spots are filled.
STEP 2: DECIDE IF YOU WANT TO AUDITION
You only need to audition if you want to be considered for a lead role. For every production, we'll publish a list ahead of time showing which roles require an audition and which do not.
Already have a guaranteed spot and don't want a lead? You're done! No audition necessary.
Want a lead? Come audition. If you aren't cast as a lead, you still have your guaranteed spot in the show.
WHAT IF THE GUARANTEED SPOTS ARE ALREADY FULL?
You can still audition for a lead role.
We hold additional spots in the cast specifically for the roles that will be filled through auditions. So even if you didn't get one of the first-come, first-served spots, you can audition and, if you're cast in a lead role, you're in the show.
If you aren't cast in a lead role, you'll remain on the waitlist and may still be offered a spot if one becomes available.
AN EXAMPLE
Let's say a production has room for 28 performers.
We might open 21 guaranteed spots on a first-come, first-served basis and reserve the remaining spots for lead roles that will be cast through auditions.
If someone from those original 21 is cast in a lead role, that opens another spot for someone on the waitlist.
The important part: You never have to audition just to participate. Auditions are only for the roles we've specifically identified as lead roles.
HOW MUCH WILL THIS COST ME?
Each production has a production contribution that helps cover the real costs of putting on the show, including things like performance rights, rehearsal and performance space, costumes, sets, props, technical needs, and other production expenses*.
We use a three-tier contribution system so that cost doesn't have to be the reason someone can't participate. Everyone receives the same experience regardless of which tier they choose, and the amount you contribute has absolutely no impact on casting.
$125 Supported Contribution
For performers who need a lower-cost option in order to participate.
$200 Standard Contribution
This is the actual standard participation rate and what we expect most performers to choose.
$275 Sponsorship Contribution
For performers who have a little more room in their budget and would like to help make the supported rate possible for someone else.
Choose the level that works for you. There is no difference in roles, casting opportunities, or how you're treated based on what you pay.
*Each show, the budget will be publicly available for review. Because you are contributing your dollars, you should know exactly what those dollars are going toward!
A NOTE ABOUT CONTRIBUTIONS
If even the supported contribution isn't financially possible for you, please reach out. We have a limited number of fully sponsored spots available for each production. Email us at theatrecolorado1@gmail.com and we'll be happy to talk with you about your options.
On the other hand, if you can comfortably contribute more, please remember that your contribution directly helps shape what's possible for your production. The money we collect from production contributions goes back into the show you're participating in.
A little more room in the budget might mean more elaborate costumes, additional lighting or scenic elements, specialty props, or bringing in someone with a specific skill, like a fight choreographer or guest choreographer.
Please choose the contribution level that's right for you. We don't want anyone stretching their budget to participate, but every additional dollar gives the production team a little more to work with.
