Prairie Playhouse and The Armory at Brighton Cultural Center present

Sinatra and Friends”

Brighton, Colo., July 24, 2012 – It’s a show, no it’s a dance, no it’s a concert, no it’s a class? It’s all these things and more! It’s the new Sinatra and Friends fundraising event.

Start the evening off at 7pm with a vintage swing dance lesson taught by World Champion Swing Dancers Mark Godwin & Shauna Marble.

At 8pm the show will begin with some spectacular dance performances by local vintage Swing Dance troupe, the Denver Swing Project.

At 8:15 you will meet Sinatra himself! Singing your favorite Crooner hits of the 1930′s, 40′s and 50′s to a swingin’ live orchestra. Dance or sit and watch, whichever you prefer.

Enjoy live music played by Don Dupree’s swining orchestra until 11pm, with mini lessons and dance performances during the band breaks. PPH’s best crooning singers will serenade you until 11pm, whether you want to dance or enjoy the show!

You do not want to miss this one-night-only spectacular event. This is PPH’s big fundraiser for the year. Bring the whole family, and a few neighbors, and take part in some incredible wholesome family fun.

Tickets are only $5 online, $7 at the door. Only one night on August 11 at The Armory, Brighton, CO. For tickets, visit http://www.prairieplayhouse.com/productions/sinatra .

Local Actor and Director to Produce Blood-Soaked, Politically Charged Musical

Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson opened on Broadway to some of the highest critical acclaim of any show last season. Sadly, the theatre-going public (aka Moms and daughters coming straight from the American Girl Store Salon) didn’t listen to reviewers. Rather, they were duped by the brighter lights of such horrendous pieces of musical fodder as Spiderman: Turn Off the Lights as well as “Brand New” hits from a decade ago like Wicked: Which Witch is Which and Mo’ Mo’ Mia: Our Love/Show Will Never Die.

It’s understandable. At a time when a helpless and victimized American Public is staring down deep economic crisis, when the nation seems as divided as any since the middle 19th century, when our President can’t live up to the hype of his national messiah monicker, and when international issues with seemingly no clear answers permeate the news, the last thing upper middle class suburbanite theatre tourists want to see is a politically charged musical that explores our strange emotional connection to what is, arguably, the highest office on the planet.

Well, since you missed it in New York, now is your chance to see its Regional Premiere in Colorado. Ben Dicke, Director-Xanadu, Robbie Hart-The Wedding Singer, Neil Tilden-1940s Radio Hour, will produce the show at the Aurora Fox Studio Space from September 7-October 28… and he simply doesn’t care. Highlights of the show include an incredible emo (ask your 14 year old daughter what that means) rock score and as much political incorrectedness as you can cram into an hour and 45 minutes. And, it’s here just in time for elections.

So, whether you’re a bleeding heart, blue blooded Liberal Dem who shops at Whole Foods cause you read somewhere that it will save cross-bred pigs from being slit ear-to-ear by illegal immigrants in a western Colorado slaughter house or you’re a fifty-something, overweight Republican investment banker who just hired three illegal immigrants to flip four of your newly acquired bank owned properties in the south suburbs, you’ve got to get a ticket. Heck, you might even learn something about Populism.

Ben’s campaign for backing has begun on the newly popular website kickstarter.com. His hope is to raise $10,000 in initial funds (he’ll need almost four times that to produce the show well). His plan is to raise it in $25 increments as much as possible thereby getting a jump on pre-sales for the show. For a better look at Ben’s vision for the show, please check out: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/988700953/bloody-bloody-andrew-jackson.

There is a large variety of shows to choose from in Colorado this holiday season! Here are just a few of them:

A Wonderful Life at The Arvada Center
1940′s Radio Christmas Carol at Bas Bleu in Ft. Collins
Beauty and the Beast at Littleton’s Town Hall Arts Center
An O Henry Christmas at Miners Alley Playhouse

These are just a few of the wonderful selections available to Colorado audiences this season. To see photos and detailed information on all the shows currently playing, check out John Moore’s theater section at the Denver Post Online.

Also coming this season is the first major fundraiser for the brand new Evolution Theatre Company. Look forward to an evening of star-studded entertainment some of Denver’s most talented performers at Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret in Downtown Denver. Find more information on ETC’s fundraiser at their website.

Last but not least, watch out all over town for the Original Dickens Carolers as they entertain holiday shoppers at malls, workers at company holiday parties and private parties. Last season, the Original Dickens Carolers launched a branch in New York City – PartySingers.com. This year they’ve gone bi-coastal and have opened a branch in Los Angeles under the direction of former Denverites Joe Donohoe and Nikki Tomlinson. Watch for the Tinseltone Carolers on the Dr. Phil show next week!

A Fundraising Idea for your Theater Company

Theater companies are always trying to come up with ideas for fundraising. It is one of the biggest challenges any non-profit theater company faces. I know of some companies who have wanted to sell their logo merchandise such as t-shirts, mugs, hats etc., but few have the available capital to do bulk orders then take the chance of not selling them all.

Cafepress has changed all of that. For free (yes, I said FREE), your theater company can create your very own Cafepress shop online. No minimum orders, no handling merchandise, just upload your images, create your products and get the link to your supporters! For an example, see what Next Stage theater company has available online: Next Stage Theater Shop. Next Stage does have an upgraded shop that costs $6.95 per month which gives you unlimited categories and products, and a totally customizable shop front. The free option works just fine if you want just a few products. Check it out – it’s a great way to show your theater spirit and raise funds for your theater company! Click the button below and find out for yourself just how simple fundraising can be!
