Spring Awakening  is the hit rock musical sensation that won 8 Tony awards. This intense Broadway blockbuster musical focuses on sex, the adolescents who want to explore it, and the adults who neglectfully keep the truths of sex, and all its incarnations and darkest complications, away from them.  Set in 19th-century small-town Germany, Spring Awakening’s tragic love story between innocent Wendla and bookish Melchior is a hard-hitting commentary on social repression that resounds in the modern day, coupled with intense alternative rock, it’s also potent, electrifying theater.

The third play in Ignite’s exciting 2012 season will premiere at the Aurora Fox Arts Center mains stage on August 3, 2012 and runs until August 26.

Backstage Theatre – Completely Hollywood Abridged opens June 21

Breckenridge’s Backstage Theatre, winner of the 2010 Outstanding Regional Theatre  award by the Colorado Theatre Guild, is proud to present a zany look at the great movie factory in Completely Hollywood Abridged, opening June 21.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the theatre…the guys from our past hit,  The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged, boldly go where few would dare:

Tinseltown!  These bad boys of abridgment take on America’s largest cultural and economic export (well, except for weapons) in this seriously silly showbiz satire.  Giving Hollywood more than just a nip and tuck, the Shakespeare boys cut through the clutter of celluloid to condense  186 of the greatest films of all time into 97 minutes, along the way highlighting the 11 cardinal  rules of filmmaking.  Enjoy film spoofs, wickedly horrendous star impersonations, movie mash-ups, and a complete compilation of classic cinematic cliches – plus a few brand new cliches they just made up.

Completely Hollywood (Abridged) is written by Reed Martin, Austin Tichenor with additional material by Dominic Conti.  The show stars Seth Maisel (Backstage’s Cannibal The Musical), Christopher Willard (The Wedding Eve), and Chris Boeckx (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee).  All three actor are veterans of the Completely franchise and eat, breathe, and sleep the power of “The Movies” – at least the movies people choose to see when they are done watching The Avengers for the 50th time.

Completely Hollywood (Abridged) opens June 21 and plays through July 22 at the Breckenridge Theatre, located at 121 S. Ridge Street in Breckenridge.  Complete performance schedule is: June 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, 30, July 6, 7, 12, 14, 19, 20, 21 at 7:30 PM and June 24, July 8, 15, 22 at 6:30 PM.  Tickets are $23 for Adults (all fees included) if you order online and $25 (all fees included) at the door or by phone.  Tickets for Youth under 18 are $18 online and $20 at the door or by phone.  For online tickets, visit backstagetheatre.org.  To order via phone, call 970.453.0199.  Tickets are available at the door, one hour before showtimes.  A special Champagne Opening will be held on June 21 with desserts and complimentary champagne.  Food and drink served at 6:30 PM.  Add $10 to the regular ticket price for this exclusive Champagne Opening event.  Mixed drinks, soft drinks, popcorn, and snacks are available for purchase at the box office.

Prairie Playhouse presents Into The Woods

Prairie Playhouse presents James Lapine’s “Into the Woods”

Prairie Playhouse, a local family theater, kicks off its summer musical performance of a timeless and yet relevant piece and a rare classic of James Lapine’s “Into the Woods” on Friday, June 15th at The Armory at Brighton Cultural Center.

When a Baker and his Wife learn they have been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell, swindling, lying to and stealing from Cinderella, Little Red, Rapunzel and Jack (the one who climbed the beanstalk). Everyone’s wish is granted at the end of Act One, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later, with disastrous results. What begins a lively irreverent fantasy in the style of The Princess Bride becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children. The fractured fairy tale includes many cockeyed characters and is well-loved by all ages.

Exciting music, great comic relief, killer cast, and great messages along the way, everyone in the audience will find a way to relate to this classic musical.

The show is directed by Jon Kroff, with musical direction by Jen Kroff and accompanied by Don Dupree. For more details, see http://www.prairieplayhouse.com/productions/intothewoods .

Tickets are only $7.50 online, $10 at the door. The show will run June 15th through the 23rd at The Armory, Brighton, CO. For tickets and actual show dates and times, visit http://www.prairieplayhouse.com/productions/intothewoods .
